trauma therapy

Trauma keeps the body stuck in the past, which can impact current functioning, and cause you to feel like you are simply surviving instead of actually living.

You or your child may be experiencing:

  • Overwhelm, anxiety, and/or panic

  • Feeling shutdown, numb, or disconnected

  • Struggles with sleeping and/or eating

  • Headaches, illness, and/or pain

  • Anger, consistent irritability, or feeling "on edge"

  • Loneliness or isolation

  • Shame, guilt, or negative self-talk

  • Struggles with physical touch and affection

  • Avoiding people, places, or reminders of the trauma

  • Nightmares or bad dreams

  • Intrusive memories or thoughts

  • Negative beliefs

  • Struggles experiencing joy or happiness

What does trauma therapy look like?

Trauma healing involves helping you safely process the traumatic experience, reconnect with your body, build tolerance for distress, and live in the present. We utilize EMDR, Somatic Experiencing, and attachment-based therapies to address trauma symptoms, all of which, help move what is "stuck" through the body in order to get you from surviving to thriving.

There is no expectation to share all of your story in the first session or even the first 10 sessions. The most effective trauma approaches work in phases- stabilization, resourcing, reprocessing, and integration. Sessions are tailored to your nervous system's capacity and aim to gradually build tolerance for distress, which means your therapist will never go too fast, too soon.

Therapy can help you or your child:

  • Process traumatic experiences

  • Improve regulation skills and remember what it feels like to be calm

  • Decrease distress, overwhelm, anxiety, and hypervigilance

  • Create a felt sense of safety

  • Improve self-esteem and confidence

  • Improve well-being and foster a sense of joy

  • Move from surviving to actually living

There is no timeline for how long it takes to feel better and reduce distress. Sessions are typically 50-60 minutes, and we do offer extended sessions for deeper processing and based on need. We offer holistic mental health services in-person at our office in Plano and virtually across Texas.
